Smart Goal: By November 12th, we will host a Mutt Strut (puppy pageant) at Chelmsford Dog Park with the entrance fee of an item off of the wish list, and will collect at least 30 items to donate to the Lowell Humane Society.
Important Benchmarks:
3. By October 21st, we will have found a place to host our event and have a date and time, and start advertising by making fliers and putting them up around school, talking to family/friends, and if possible, have the Humane Society advertise for us as well. What we actually did: Sarah from the Social Pup emailed us back, and said we could use their space, but it is not the most ideal, so recommended Chelmsford Dog Park and Mill No. 5 in Lowell. We contacted them both and asked about using their space, and Vivian and Mary from the Chelmsford Dog Park emailed us back and said we could, and that we could go to their Howl'ween event to promote our pageant.
This benchmark is important because after a few weeks of contacting people about possible pageant locations, we finally got a response from the Chelmsford Dog Association saying we could use their park.
4. By October 28th, we will have ideas about activities/layout for the pageant and start selling our animal abuse bracelets around school and with friends and family. What we actually did: We finalized our flyer, and e-mailed it to the Chelmsford Dog Association so that they can post it on their Facebook and at the park. We also ordered bracelets that we will sell for $1 each at the Howl'ween event, around school, and at our event. We also created a tri-fold with information about animal cruelty and out project that we will bring when we promote our event.
This benchmark is important because we were able to actually begin our project, by selling bracelets and advertising our pageant at one of the dog park's events.
6. By November 12th, we will have completed the pageant and have donated all the collected items and money to the Lowell Humane Society. What we actually did: On Saturday we had our pageant at the dog park, and it went well. There were a lot of dogs at the park, and we had a 50/50 raffle, sold our bracelets, and set up an agility course for the dogs along with the costume contest. We ended up collecting $177 and 30 items, which we then donated to the Lowell Humane Society!
This benchmark is important because we successfully completed our pageant, and met our smart goal by donating 30 items and $177 to the Lowell Humane Society.
